Founded in 1871, Fargo, ND was first a stopping point for steamboats along the Red River. As the railroad became established, the area quickly flourished, bringing more people, goods, and trade. Named after William Fargo, a director of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Fargo swiftly became a buzzing hub; its roots planted right around present-day Northern Pacific Avenue in downtown Fargo.
